Brewer's Notes

Pitch Shifter is a light amber IPA, harmonizing a high hop octave, of floral and citrus notes, leading to fruity finale.

A pitch shifter is a sound effects unit that raises or lowers the pitch of an audio signal by a preset interval. For example, a pitch shifter set to increase the pitch by a fourth will raise each note three diatonic intervals above the notes actually played. Alvin and the Chipmunks for example uses it by a person talking, then speeding the recording up and changing the pitch, and finally keeping the higher pitch back to normal speed.

In brewing we can alter the pitch of the hop essential oils to create some effects that are not traditionally used. This beer uses bittering hops for aroma, bitterness and flavouring, mixing in other hops to harmonize the complex flavours together. We break down some of the essential hop oils while leaving some intact which creates different effects.

I brewed this especially made for the Worthing Beer Festival in late October 2017. I love floral, citrus and fruity IPA, that are dry and allow the hops to take centre stage.

The beer will be available to bars and micros in kegs. I may put some in cask when conditioned, but we will see…
